Tribute

Trinidad “Trini” H. Dunn passed away on December 01, 2019 in Tracy, CA at the age of 89. She was born on June 15th, 1930 in Camp Wood, TX and was the sixth of nine children born to Rosa and Emilio Hernandez.

Trini was born into a migrant farm working family that migrated from Texas to Colorado then back to Texas. As a young child, she worked in the fields picking fruit, vegetables, nuts, and cotton. At 15 years old she married Antonio DeHoyos and had five children-Anna, Dora, Jose, Juan, and Rosa. Her and her husband were business owners of a grocery store and restaurant in Uvalde, TX.

In 1955, they moved to California for better opportunities. She was heavily involved in the Tracy community beginning with her position of PTA President at West Park School. She was director of South Tracy Improvement Association (STIA) from 1964-1971. In 1965, she was able to bring Congressman John McFall to visit and tour STIA. Then in 1966, she marched with Cesar Chavez on his first march to Sacramento. Also, she was a member of Community Action Council (CAC) and LULAC. To honor her community service she received an Achievement Award from the San Joaquin Concilio of Stockton in 1970 and also graduated from the Tracy Adult School that same year. She worked at Heinz, Woolworth, G&G Clothing, and the Tracy Adult School where she retired after 29 years. She was honored and received the Mexican American Citizen of the Year award in 2012. She loved helping others by writing many letters of encouragement and recommendations.

A few years after divorcing her first husband she met and married Lee Dunn who had two children-Elizabeth “Patty” and Arthur. They were married in 1969 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tracy, CA. Together they were blessed with a last child, Kimberlee. They had a long and loving marriage of 41 years. During this time they began Amistad Fun Tours and AMI Bus Service. They traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Trinidad led a full and vibrant life. She was an integral part of her families’ lives. She was always up for a trip to the casinos. She loved Friday night dinners with her family, mariachi music, cooking, reading, and traveling.

Trinidad is survived by her sister, Guadalupe (Victor) Perry of Eagle Pass, TX; her children Anna (Patrick) McElligott of Modesto, CA; Dora Sisneroz of Galt, CA; Juan (Karen) DeHoyos of San Ramon, CA; Elizabeth (Daniel) Diviney of Tracy, CA; Arthur (Jean) Lee of Mt. Ranch, CA; Rosa (Alfred) Lara of Tracy, CA; Kimberlee (Christopher) Meredith of Tracy, CA; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nephews and nieces. Sister in Law’s Eliose DeHoyos of Tracy, CA and Veva Morales of Uvalde, TX. Trinidad was preceded in death by her husband Lee Dunn, her parents Rosa and Emilio Hernandez of Uvalde, TX; brothers Emilio Hernandez, Rodolfo Hernandez, and Juan Hernandez; sisters Manuela Hernandez, Magarita Olvera, Belia DeAnda, and Beatrice Gonzales; son Jose of Uvalde, TX. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on December 12, 2019 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Tracy immediately followed by the interment at Tracy Cemetary. Reception to follow at First Presbyterian Church. Viewing 4-6 PM with service at 6 PM at Fry Memorial Chapel on December 11, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in memory of Trinidad.
