Rose Marie Furtado entered Heaven’s gates on May 21,2020. She passed peacefully after a long illness with her family by her side.
Rose was born on April 2, 1936 in Hayward, CA to parents George and Willimina Andrade. She graduated from Hayward High School and shortly thereafter met her husband Robert Matthew Furtado Sr. and was married July 29, 1956 in Reno, Nevada. They remained married for 63 years and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this July.
Robert and Rose raised their four children in Tracy, California. Rose stayed home to raise their children until they were old enough for her to return to work. She started work in 1971 as a secretary in the purchase department for Tracy Joint Union High School District. During her 28 years of working for the school district, she held many positions and retired in 1999 as the Administrative Secretary for Educational Services. In 1976 she was given a strange new machine- an IBM dedicated word processor. She was one of the first people in the district to know how to use a personal computer.
When not at work, Rose could be found at home cooking, gardening, and giving advice to her children and their friends. The kitchen table was the place you would find Rose offering advice, listening to stories, or just visiting. Friends would come over to visit Rose even when her children were not home.
Rose was a parishioner at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and was committed to her practice of her Catholic faith throughout her entire life. She taught catechism classes and was an Eucharistic Minister.
Rose is survived by her husband Robert Furtado Sr, and her four children Robert Furtado Jr, Rose Marie Ewen (Kerry), Kenneth Furtado, and Mark Furtado and her sister Shirley Boysen (Dick). She was preceded in death by her parents George and Willimina Andrade, and her sister Rita Brooks. Rose was blessed with five grandchildren: Ashley and Lindsey Ewen and Matthew, Sarah and Lucas Furtado.
A special thanks to Rose’s doctors and many care providers. The Furtado family would like to thank all the friends and staff who assisted us in so many ways, we shall be forever grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness.
Services are planned for May 29th, but do to the COVID 19 regulations, services will be private and limited to immediate family. Rose would want all her friends to know she is at peach and would welcome prayers.
