Tribute

Roger Traina, a lifelong resident of Tracy, passed away suddenly on July 2, 2020 at the age of 67.
Born in San Jose on July 1, 1953, Roger was the younger son of Tony and Connie Traina of Tracy. Roger and his older brother Gary had an idyllic childhood growing up on West Linne Road surrounded by their family’s cherry orchard. The children next door, their cousins Wayne and Keith, could not have been better playmates. Baseball games at Jefferson School, apricot fights in the orchard, and hot summer days in the pool at the golf course filled their days and created lifelong memories for the Traina boys. More memories and friends were created for Roger at Jefferson School under the guidance of Tom Hawkins. Roger graduated from Tracy High in 1971 where he excelled at football and track. He was known as Mr. Hustle on the football field where he wowed generations of spectators. His love for sports never waned as he coached his daughter's winning flag football team at Jefferson with Pete Carlson and Larry Stevens as well as her softball teams. Roger chose farming as his career and grew apricots and walnuts both independently and as a foreman for the Vincent Traina ranches.
Roger will be greatly missed by all who know him for his kindness, his infectious smile, his warm and welcoming nature, and his sincerity. He is survived by his devoted wife Diane; his adoring daughter Alyssa; his loving mother Connie; his supportive brother Gary; his loving inlaws Linda Traina, JoAnn Beecher, and Ed (Buz) Beecher; his dearest nieces and nephews Brian Traina, Jason Traina, Jenine Beecher, and Bary Beecher; and his first cousins Wayne (Nancy) and Keith Traina. He was predeceased by his dear father Tony, and his uncle and aunt, Julius and Marie. Roger will also be missed by numerous relatives and friends whose lives he touched with the magic of his spirit. Roger was also a member of St. Bernard's Church, the Italian Catholic Federation, and the Tracy Breakfast Lions.
