Tribute

Myrna Covarrubias, 40, of Tracy, California, passed away on June 30, 2019 at Stanford Medical Center after a long battle with kidney and liver failure.

She was born on October 20, 1978 in Tracy, California to Mary and Marino Covarrubias, and quickly became known as "Minnie" by family and friends. She graduated from Tracy High School and attended Delta College. She married Andrew Hernandez in 2008.

Minnie was deeply rooted in her community and worked for the City of Tracy with both youth and seniors, as a preschool teacher, and as an after-school teacher.

Anyone lucky enough to have Minnie in their lives knows she prioritized her family and friends, spending quality time with them, brightening people's days, and making everyone feel like they were her favorite. She especially loved spoiling her nephews, niece, and little cousins. As someone who liked to plan things to a tee, Minnie organized countless fun events to share laughs and memories with others, including watching movies, parties to celebrate birthdays and other milestones, paint nights, and vacations.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pete and Josephine Gama, and Jose Covarrubias; and her uncles, Joe Gama and Jesus Baez.

Minnie is survived by her husband, Andrew Hernandez; parents, Mary and Marino Covarrubias; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marino, Miguel (Gloria), Martin (Andrea); and her nephews and niece, Martin, Pete, Isabella, and Miguel Covarrubias. Minnie will also be remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Over the last few years, Minnie formed strong bonds with fellow dialysis patients, Dr. Vakshouri at Sutter Health, and the staff at Stanford.

Visitation services, open to friends and family, will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 1-9 p.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Avenue, and a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Avenue, followed by burial in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road.
