David Charles Coykendall, DDS
Born at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California to John and Katherine
Coykendall on October 19,1934. He attended Tracy schools - Central School, West Park, and
Tracy High graduating in 1952. Attended Modesto Junior College preDental for 2 years, then
UCSF School of Dentistry where he met the love of his life Janet Clara Brown who was a
Nursing student attending French Hospital School of Nursing of San Francisco.
They were married for almost 62 years until his passing. After Dental school he entered the US
Air Force as a Lieutenant on 9/1958 until 10/1962. He served in Korea for 13 months and Japan
for 3 years. His 1st child Linda was born in Ceres while he was serving in Korea and then Janet
and Linda joined him 5 months later in Japan. His daughter Pamela and son Robert were born
while still serving in Japan. He returned to Tracy, California in October 1962 to establish his
Dental practice which he began in his childhood home that had been converted to his Dental
Office in March 1963 practicing General Dentistry. His youngest son Timothy was born in 1964.
He changed his practice to Dentistry limited to Children and Orthodontics in 1970 which he
continued until 2005 at the age of 70. He was a lifetime member and an Elder at Grace Brethren
Church and helped establish NeighborHood Church of Tracy where he also served as an Elder.
He also attended Grace Church and Pleasant Valley Baptist. He taught Sunday School for
many years and was a mentor to so many of all ages in their Christian walk. His Christian faith
was evident in all aspects of his life. He truly was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. His
ministry didn’t end even with Alzheimer's disease affecting his communication. He was a lifetime
member of the American Dental Association and a member of Gideons International distributing
Bibles to Hotels and Schools. He became a resident at Prestige Senior Living of Manteca along
with Janet in March of 2019 until his passing on May 5, 2020. He leaves behind his wife Janet,
Children Linda(Dave) Erichsen of Tracy, Pam(Dave) Wampler of Manteca, Robert(Lucia)
Coykendall of Lemoore, and Timothy(Desiree) Coykendall of Tracy. 11 grandchildren, Philip,
Danielle, Sarah, Joshua, Jacob, Royce, Brandon, Brittany, Katherine, Christopher, and
Caroline; former daughter-in-law Diana Cabanova Coykendall; 11 great grandchildren. One
brother Donald Coykendall of Las Vegas, Nevada. Preceded in death by his parents and
brothers John and Ramon Coykendall. Memorial Donations would be preferred to be given to
Gideons International in lieu of flowers. Services are pending the lifting of Covid19 pandemic
restrictions.
