Barbara J. Rogers

Barbara Jean (Russell) Rogers passed away at home in Tracy on Saturday, July 6. 
The first of three girls born to Vivian and Rayfield Russell, Barbara grew up in San Diego and was very close to her two younger sisters. 

Barbara and her husband Lee lived in Daly City, where they raised their four children, and where Barbara lived until 2014. In the 1960s, Barbara was hired as one of the first Black employees at Pacific Bell, where she worked for over 30 years.

Barbara had a strong faith in God throughout her life. Most recently, she was a member of Restoration Tabernacle Church in Tracy, where she found spiritual comfort and many friends. 

Barbara was an avid reader and fully embraced technology, and enjoyed sending out cards she personally designed on her laptop.

Barbara was incredibly proud of her family, and she was known to celebrate the achievements of her children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. When asked about her life, she said, “Overall, it’s been beautiful.” 

Barbara loved to dance, and she is surely dancing now with those who’ve gone on before her: her beloved husband of 47 years; her parents, and her sisters Opal and Lois. 

Left to carry on her memory and legacy are her children, Jocelyn 
(Dennis), Renee, Russell, Darren (Yolanda) and Rita; her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends. All are blessed to have been so deeply touched by Barbara’s life.
